Poorly healing wounds are a massive burden for patients, health care systems, and the economy. An aging society and the rise of diabetes further aggravate the issue of non-healing wounds. The ETH Zurich spin-off anavo has developed an approach that radically differs from existing solutions by engineering the wound healing capabilities of inorganic hybrid materials. Working with inexpensive materials that can be produced at scale, their approach differs completely from current solutions that are based on complex biological products or processes. Their prototypes do not only stick strongly to tissues and stop bleeding but additionally have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-regenerative properties.
